Morris Visitor Publications launches Where® magazine in Berlin, expanding global reach
Augusta, Ga. (April 2014)— Morris Visitor Publications, the global travel information business division of Morris Communications Company, is pleased to announce the successful launch of Where® magazine in Berlin.
Founded in 1936, Where® is the premier source of local information for travelers around the world, delivering information to more than 250 million print readers annually. From dining and shopping to tours, events and top local attractions, Where® provides insider's knowledge of more than 100 destinations worldwide in both print and digital formats and in multiple languages.
The English-language Where Berlin magazine will be published monthly with a circulation of 50,000 copies. The March 2014 issue launch coincided with the ITB annual international travel fair in Berlin, the largest fair of its kind in the world. As part of the launch of Where Berlin magazine, Morris Visitor Publications held an event for Berlin's hotel and concierge community. The magazine can be found in-room and at the concierge desks of more than 200 top Berlin hotels—chiefly including four- and five-star properties.
In addition to the new Where Berlin magazine, Where® publishes a restaurant guide to Berlin, a comprehensive fold-out map designed for travelers, and free tear-off maps that can be found at hotels and travel information distribution points.
This is the second expansion of Morris Visitor Publications into the German marketplace. One year ago, Morris Visitor Publications acquired DINAMIX, a Berlin-based travel information and brochure distribution company serving Berlin and Brandenburg. DINAMIX has also distributed the Where® branded maps of Berlin and the Where® branded Berlin restaurant guide.
"Our existing DINAMIX operations, along with Germany's thriving economy and Berlin's ability to draw both leisure and business travelers, have placed us in a strong position to launch Where Berlin magazine," said William S. Morris III, chairman of Morris Communications. "We are now able to provide Berlin's visitors the accurate, timely, necessary and helpful information they require—the same information we have provided for travelers around the world."
Berlin's tourism sector saw nearly 11 million visitors in 2012, making it the third most popular city destination in Europe. Many international visitors to Berlin are English speakers; for 2012, the top foreign nations visiting Germany were the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
"We are very excited to add Berlin to our travel network," said Donna Kessler, president of Morris Media Network and Morris Visitor Publications. "Our goal is to serve the traveler globally, and to help them plan, experience and share their trips."
"Berlin is an incredibly vibrant city. It has an extremely dynamic tourism economy," said Chris Manning, managing director for European operations at Morris Visitor Publications. "No matter the season or the length of stay, we aim to provide visitors across all categories with rich, diverse and reliable information that will help them get the most out of their stay in this amazing city."
The launch of Where Berlin follows Morris Visitor Publications' recent expansion into Australia, with Where® branded travel publications in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as well as online at www.whereaustralia.com.au.
Today, Morris Visitor Publications owns worldwide rights to the Where® trademark, with operations and licensees in the United States, Australia, Europe, China and Southeast Asia. Where® magazines are also published in Canada by St. Joseph Communications Media Group.
