Mike Gallagher of City Pass to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at 2014 Hotel Excellence Awards

August 21, 2014 (New York, NY): Mike Gallagher, co-chairman and co-founder of City Pass, has been chosen as the 2014 recipient of the Hotel Excellence Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award. Gallagher will be on hand to accept the award at the event, held Monday, January 26, 2015, at the iconic Cipriani Wall Street.

This prestigious award is given to an individual or association that demonstrates exceptional achievement in their field and outstanding contributions to New York City’s hospitality industry. Drew and Tracy Nieporent, of Myriad Restaurant Group, received the 2013 award.

Prior to launching City Pass in 1996 with his partner, Mike Morey, Gallagher had accumulated a wealth of experience as both a theme-park executive and a tourism leader. He started his career in various operations and marketing capacities at SeaWorld San Diego and the San Diego Zoo. In subsequent years, he held executive positions for Marine World Africa USA (now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom). Shortly after leaving Marine World in 1997, Gallagher and Morey introduced the CityPASS® concept in San Francisco and Seattle. The popular program quickly expanded to eight additional cities and Southern California.

Gallagher is a member of NYC & Company, and, on a national scale, he is a Chairman’s Circle board member and second vice chair for the U.S. Travel Association. Gallagher was also actively involved in the passage of the 2010 Travel Promotion Act and was a member of the task force that created the blueprint for the Corporation for Travel Promotion, now Brand USA. He also served as a loaned executive to Brand USA in 2012 and was inducted into the U.S. Travel Association’s prestigious Hall of Leaders that same year. In 2014, he was appointed to a two-year term on the Travel and Tourism Advisory Board.
